Making a setup for a Windows Service

For making a setup for a service you need to make several simple steps. If you miss one step the setup does not work as you exspect.

In these steps I expect you not to have a setup project and have a Windows Service project.

The steps are here

  1. Rightclick on the service in the Solution Explorer and select “View Designer”
  2. Rightclick on the design surface in the main view and select “Add Installer”
  3. Rightclick the solution in the Solution Explorer and select “Add -> New Project”
  4. Select “Other Project Types -> Setup and Deployment”
  5. Select “Setup Project”, select a name and click “OK”
  6. If you start on another page that the FileSystem then select it by rightclicking on the setup project in the Solution Explorer and select “View -> File System”
  7. Rightclick “Application Folder in the main view and select “Add -> Project Output”
  8. Select “Primary Output” and click “OK”
  9. Rightclick the setup project in the Solution Explorer and select “View -> Custom Actions”
  10. Rightclick “Custom Actions” in the main view and select “Add Custom Action…”
  11. Select “Application Folder” and click “OK”
  12. Select “Primary Output from …..” and click “OK”
